Joe Satriani & John Petrucci & Steve Vai – G3 Tour

October 23rd, 2009
Comments Off

G3: Live in Tokyo is another G3 live performance which featured John Petrucci along with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai in the 2005 G3 tour. It was released as double live album as well as DVD with extra material: G3 Soundcheck (15:01) featuring commentary by Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and John Petrucci.G3 returns in fine form with “G3 Live in Tokyo”. The same formula as the last two g3 DVDs is repeated. Joe Satriani teams up with Steve Vai and find a third guitarist worthy of sharing the stage with them. Each member performs his own set and then all 3 jam on stage together. It worked on the previous 2 DVDs and it works again. This time, with the addition of John Petrucci of Dream Theater/LTE, is the best time. Yes, there is only 90 minutes worth of music, but if you want the full G3 experience go see themJohn Petrucci plays a couple of songs from his “Suspended Animation” disc. I saw G3 with Petrucci back in 2001 and thought that he should release the music he was playing. Now he has. Both songs showcase Petrucci’s ability to combine speed, tone and phrasing in an instrumental form. Both songs have a couple of tone and time changes, and Petrucci shows why he is considered one of the best guitarists in the rock genre. (Or any genre for that matter) Fans of Dream Theater or any of John’s other projects won’t be dissapointed. John is joined by, DT drummer, Mike Portnoy and Dave Larue of Steve Morse and Dreg’s fame. The rhythm section is solid and all over John’s music. A very good set

Release Notes:

NOTE: Previous rip was nuked for bad encoding. And yes, it’s been like 10 months
since that’s happened, but this is a pretty good album by Jason Schwartzman (of
Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, Phantom Planet, etc), so it deserves a proper
release. Enjoy if you haven’t been already!

Also, this must be some enhanced version because there’s a bunch of alternate
versions and such that weren’t included on the first failed release.

Jason Schwartzman was first known for being the drummer of the alternative rock
band Phantom Planet. But Schwartzman left the band in the middle of their third
album to try his luck as an actor. Since then he has made his mark on the film
industry in movies such as “I Heart Huckabees” and “Marie Antoinette.” Now he is
back with a solo album called Nighttiming under the persona Coconut Records.

The two singles for Nighttiming are easily the best songs on the album. “West
Coast” is a mournful anthem of Schwartzman’s return to the west coast. “West
Coast” shares a lot of qualities with Phantom Planet’s biggest hit “California.”
Even the lyrics seem to be written in response to it. “And I miss you, I’m going
back home to the west coast/ I wish you could put yourself in my suitcase,” as
opposed to “California’s” “California here we come/ Right back where we started
from/ California/ Here we come.”

The title track, “Nighttiming,” sounds like a mix between 70’s disco and 80’s
new age music, but somehow the result is good. The first impression I got of
this song was bad, but I came around to the extremely catchy chorus and music.
“Summer Day,” appeared on the soundtrack for “Spiderman 3.” In fact, costar
Kirsten Dunst sings the background vocals throughout the song.

Nighttiming has lots of different sounds, from Weezer-esque rock songs to a
unique type of indie pop rock. There are a lot of acoustic jingles like “This
Old Machine,” “Slowly,” and “Mamma,” none of which are good enough to give much
attention to. Many songs on the album don’t surpass three minutes long, and all
twelve songs on the album barely run thirty-three minutes. Some notable songs
are “Minding My Own Business” and my personal favorite “It’s Not You It’s Me.”

This CD may not be for anyone who wants really introspective music, but it is
good for easy listening and on some songs, rocking out.

   ALICE IN CHAINS
   Jerry Cantrell – guitars/vocals
   Sean Kinney – drums
   Mike Inez – bass
   William DuVall – guitars/vocals

The new Alice In Chains album Black
Gives Way To Blue is the sound of a new beginning of a legendary band
returning to life. Right from the album’s powerful and deeply meaningful
opener “All Secrets Known” through its redemptive closing title track, Black
Gives Way To Blue-the first new Alice In Chains album in more than 14
years-is not just another rock reunion, but something far more inspiring.
Alice In Chains in the present tense. No replacements. No substitutions. It
does no disrespect to the enduring memory of Alice In Chains’ late, great
lead singer Layne Staley, to say that for all that he brought to the group’s
music in his lifetime, Alice In Chains always was-and always will be-very
much a band. So after taking a more than respectful break to mourn the loss
of their brother and band mate-to heal and explore music individually-the
surviving members of Alice In Chains-Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and
bassist Mike Inez-gradually began to make music again. The band came together
for the first time in 2005 to take part in a benefit for the victims of the
tsunami in Indonesia. The following year, Cantrell, Kinney and Inez decided
that the time was right for Alice In Chains to reclaim its legacy again on
tour. They did so with the help of a new guitarist and vocalist William
DuVall, a gifted singer and player in his own right from Atlanta who
previously worked with Neon Christ, Comes with the Fall, and as part of Jerry
Cantrell’s touring band. As live audiences discovered, DuVall brings a sound
and stage presence all his own. Yet when DuVall and Cantrell blend their
voices-as Cantrell and Staley did so often-there could be little doubt that
the spirit of Alice In Chains was once again alive and well. Black Gives Way
To Blue is the next step for a group that over the course of their career
earned multiple Grammy nominations and sold more than 19 million albums
worldwide and achieved 11 Top Ten singles. At the same time, the album offers
the full, bracing impact of Alice In Chains-a band that kept heavy rock
exciting at the dawn of the Nineties and helped set the stage for an even
grungier Seattle sound-still clearly firing on all cylinders. Recording on
Black Gives Way To Blue began in October of 2008 at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606
in Northridge and finished at Henson Studios in Hollywood. The band produced
the album with Nick Raskulinecz, whose past credits include Foo Fighters and
Rush. Black Gives Way To Blue combines some classic Alice In Chain textures
with a renewed sense of energy and possibility, from the epic and
fantastically electric rocker “A Looking In View” to the exquisite and
romantic ballad “Your Decision” to the album’s stunning first single “Check
My Brain,” a throbbing rocker in which a band associated with the Pacific
Northwest makes a wry and witty observation on working and living in
California. Through Black Gives Way To Blue, there is a deep sense of the
unique life that this band haslived, of “Lesson Learned,” to borrow the title
of another standout track. In the end, the album offers a kind of shared
group autobiography by a band that has survived so much. Together, they are
in a way “Last Of My Kind,” to use the title of another album highlight
penned by Jerry Cantrell-long a dominant songwriter within Alice In
Chains-with lyrics from DuVall. “Imitations are pale,” DuVall and Cantrell
sing together on “Black Gives Way To Blue,” a brand new Alice In Chain
classic that really has it all-the brooding hurt, the brute force and the
beautiful introspection. Listen closely to Black Gives Way To Blue, and
you’ll know right away this is Alice In Chains.

I found these in Flac Quality at well over 1 gb for complete album.
Since I already had them in my collection at 320, thought this would be better download for those who suffer from limited space.
The sound is just as good in my opinion.
Please download other collection if you want, but if space is problem, here is alternative. Have a good day. “CareTaker”
