Release Notes:

NOTE: Previous rip was nuked for bad encoding. And yes, it’s been like 10 months
since that’s happened, but this is a pretty good album by Jason Schwartzman (of
Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, Phantom Planet, etc), so it deserves a proper
release. Enjoy if you haven’t been already!

Also, this must be some enhanced version because there’s a bunch of alternate
versions and such that weren’t included on the first failed release.

Jason Schwartzman was first known for being the drummer of the alternative rock
band Phantom Planet. But Schwartzman left the band in the middle of their third
album to try his luck as an actor. Since then he has made his mark on the film
industry in movies such as “I Heart Huckabees” and “Marie Antoinette.” Now he is
back with a solo album called Nighttiming under the persona Coconut Records.

The two singles for Nighttiming are easily the best songs on the album. “West
Coast” is a mournful anthem of Schwartzman’s return to the west coast. “West
Coast” shares a lot of qualities with Phantom Planet’s biggest hit “California.”
Even the lyrics seem to be written in response to it. “And I miss you, I’m going
back home to the west coast/ I wish you could put yourself in my suitcase,” as
opposed to “California’s” “California here we come/ Right back where we started
from/ California/ Here we come.”

The title track, “Nighttiming,” sounds like a mix between 70’s disco and 80’s
new age music, but somehow the result is good. The first impression I got of
this song was bad, but I came around to the extremely catchy chorus and music.
“Summer Day,” appeared on the soundtrack for “Spiderman 3.” In fact, costar
Kirsten Dunst sings the background vocals throughout the song.

Nighttiming has lots of different sounds, from Weezer-esque rock songs to a
unique type of indie pop rock. There are a lot of acoustic jingles like “This
Old Machine,” “Slowly,” and “Mamma,” none of which are good enough to give much
attention to. Many songs on the album don’t surpass three minutes long, and all
twelve songs on the album barely run thirty-three minutes. Some notable songs
are “Minding My Own Business” and my personal favorite “It’s Not You It’s Me.”

This CD may not be for anyone who wants really introspective music, but it is
good for easy listening and on some songs, rocking out.

Ultimate Reverend Horton Heat Discography

Welcome my friend to another bsskibum post

Today from the vaults I give to you…..
The Reverend Horton Heat Discography
9 studio albums
1 rare collection album
1 side project album

GROUP INFO:
The group originally formed in 1985, playing its first gigs in Dallas’s Deep Ellum neighborhood. Its current members are Jim “Reverend Horton” Heath on guitar and lead vocals, Jimbo Wallace on the upright bass, and Paul Simmons on drums. Through relentless touring and a manic stage show, they have established themselves as one of the most popular underground acts in America. Their sound is self described as “Country-fed punkabilly.” Their music is a mixture of country, punk, big band swing and rockabilly, all played loud and energetically with lyrics that are often very humorous.

While attracting a mostly cult audience, The Reverend’s music has found its way into a lot of different places. “Big Red Rocket of Love” was used in a commercial for the Mazda Miata, and the instrumental which they often use to open their show, “Big Sky,” was the music behind a commercial for Levi’s jeans. A cover of the Guadalcanal Diary song “Watusi Rodeo” was in the Jim Carrey movie Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. The band’s song “Like a Rocket” (with altered lyrics) was chosen as the official Daytona 500 theme song for 2002. In 2005, the song “Eat Steak” was featured in television commercials for Boston Market, along with the song “Turkey Gotta Gobble” featured for Thanksgiving 2005. They were the theme band, with accompanying video, of the popular cartoon Johnny Bravo. The song “I Can’t Surf” was part of the soundtrack of the video game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 published in 2001, and a slightly altered version of “Psychobilly Freakout” is featured in the game Guitar Hero II. “Psychobilly Freakout” was used on a commercial for Buell American Motorcycles. Their song Baddest Of The Bad is featured on the soundtrack to Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground The 1997 PC video game Redneck Rampage also includes two songs: “Wiggle Stick” and “Nurture my Pig!”.

Jim “Reverend Horton” Heath has a signature guitar from the Gretsch Guitar company.

Archive – Discography

Archive - Discography

Archive were formed by Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths in 1994 from the ashes of the UK breakbeat act Genaside II. Together with the female singer Roya Arab and the young rapper Rosko John, the band released their first album “Londinium” on Island Records in 1996, a mix of dark Trip hop (in a similar vein to Massive Attack), electronica and progressive music. The album received moderate critical acclaim, but due to internal dispute the band split up later that year.

However, in 1997 Keeler and Griffiths reformed Archive with another female singer (Suzanne Wooder) and in 1999 released their second album “Take My Head”, a mix of pop and symphonic trip-hop far more melodic than its predecessor. The band have described this album as their least favourite of their albums.

Between 2002 and 2005 the band released three albums with singer Craig Walker (formerly of Power of Dreams) to growing popularity and critical acclaim, including a large following in France and Poland. These albums have seen Archive gradually turn away from their roots in Electronica and Trip hop and towards more psychedelic and progressive style of bands such as Pink Floyd, Mogwai, and The Secret Machines. The band also composed the soundtrack to the French film Michel Vaillant, released in November 2003.

Archive announced at short notice that Walker would not join the band’s tour in November 2004 “due to unforeseen circumstances”. Another statement from Darius Keeler hinted at personal problems keeping Walker from touring. In an interview with the TV station arte in late 2005, Keeler and Griffiths stated that Walker is in fact no longer with Archive and is working on a solo album, whereas Walker has stated that he left Archive due to personal differences with management and other band members.

In autumn of 2004, Archive announced that Dave Pen (Birdpen) would replace Walker on the Noise tour – due to the continuing personal problems between Walker and the rest of the band. During this same tour, Keeler and Griffiths met the singer Pollard Berrier at one of their shows in Vienna, Austria. The three began writing and rehearsing together, and were recording in Southside Studios, London, by September 2005.

In May 2006, Archive released “Lights”, from which the first single was “System”. Dave Pen contributed on three tracks of the album and Maria Q sang on four tracks.

They have been touring in Europe since 2006, with Dave Pen, Pollard Berrier and occasionally Maria Q as singers. As the critical reaction to their “Lights” tour has been excellent, they recorded a live DVD in Paris in January 2007.

Archive released their 6th album “Controlling Crowds” on March 30th 2009. The first single was entitled “Bullets”.

As of February 2009, Rosko John is “back in the Archive collective”, according to the official Archive newsletter.
